Vance Z. Johnson, MD, is a specialist in the evaluation and treatment of sports and spine problems. As Chief Resident for Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Loma Linda University Medical Center he trained in musculoskeletal, sports and neurodiagnostic medicine. He found that one of the most challenging medical problems, back pain, was also the most rewarding to treat. He went on to do fellowship training in Spine Interventions and Bariatrics (weight management medicine). Dr. Johnson is Medical Director for Corona Regional Medical Center’s Pain Medicine program. Because of his work with in spinal cord injury support groups, Dr. Johnson served as consultant to Johnson & Johnson on the iBOT 3000 gyroscope-balanced wheelchair project. He is a teaching consultant for St. Jude's Advance Neuromodulation Systems and speaks at national symposia on spinal cord stimulation therapies. He founded an Interventional Spine Fellowship program. He co-founded a 50 acre hospital campus in Murrieta, California which will open with the regions most advanced Spine Pain Care center in March 2011.

Dr. Johnson has taught many physicians how to do the latest ultra-minimally invasive operations. The Fluoroscopic Laminotomy operation is a good example. It is a modern outpatient treatment for Lumbar Stenosis whereby the thick ligament pinching the spinal canal can be thinned to relieve the nerves. Dr. Johnson's studies have shown that it can give rapid and dramatic improvement of walking and standing tolerance. Almost half of all the doctors in the USA who are certified to perform this operation were taught it by Dr. Johnson.

He listens to books at high speed while training for triathlons.
